Gremlin Interactive

Gremlin Interactive

Gremlin Interactive was a British software house based in Sheffield established in 1984 as Gremlin Graphics Software Ltd. and renamed in 1994. The company worked mostly in the home computer market, achieving great success with games such as Thing on a Spring and Monty on the Run for 8-bit computers like the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC.

Gremlin also achieved success in the early 1990s with the Premier Manager series, and then with Actua Soccer, the first football game in full 3D, along with other games such as Zool, the Lotus series, Hardwar and Motorhead. Following EA's success with the EA Sports brand, Gremlin also released their own sports videogame series, adding Golf, Ice Hockey and Tennis to their Actua Sports series.

In 1996 Gremlin acquired DMA Design (creators of Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings), and in 1999, they themselves were bought by Infogrames and renamed "Infogrames Sheffield House". However, the studio closed altogether in 2001.
